Early Education Program

for Hearing Impaired Children

Group programs

Language Based Playgroup
A group is run weekly at the centre for children with hearing loss and their under school age siblings. It provides opportunities for the children to develop their listening skills and social skills within a group setting. It helps children to build their confidence when interacting with other children and adults, and it provides an opportunity for children to see others who have hearing aids or cochlear implants. Enjoyable sensory and play activities are carefully planned to facilitate interaction between the children and to encourage development of the children’s communication, speech and language skills.

Parent Support and Information Group
This group is held weekly at the centre. It encourages parent-to-parent contact and provides information on topics as requested by parents. Issues regarding equipment, understanding audiology and general parenting challenges are common topics.
Please note: Parents with babies are welcome to attend the Parent Support and Information Group if they wish to speak with other parents who have young children with hearing loss.

Baby Groups
The EEP provides individual sessions for families with babies and baby groups are arranged as required. Parents who have babies with hearing loss, have told us that they are overwhelmed by the number of appointments that they are required to attend while trying to establish feeding and sleeping routines. They have also told us that they want to participate in their local parent group to help build up local networks and friendships. Baby groups are arranged at the EEP to address specific issues. They can also be arranged for parents who want to meet other parents who have babies with hearing loss.
